Open Country: The Landscapes of Dale Livezey

Landscape paintings of the Rocky Mountain Front Range and the Great Western prairies by Dale Livezey, who made a lifelong commitment to his art when he moved to Montana in 1978.

Described as "a poet of dusk and of daybreak," he delights in the moody changeability of these magic times.

He has been personally influenced by Maynard Dixon and Wolf Kahn, perhaps because they were mavericks like Livezey himself. Kahn was a daring colorist, and Dixon insisted ... The West is spiritually important to America.

The Open Country exhibit was first shown at the Holter Museum in Helena during 2001.
