 A Stereoview: History & Scope of the Three Dimensional Viewer

At one time the stereoscope and stereograph were found in every American home. From the 1850’s until World War I, the stereoscope allowed our forefathers to visit every corner of America and the World. 

Today it provides us with a three dimensional historical record of those 70 years. 
This exhibit provides a visual history of the photographic processes used in stereo imagery including daguerreotype, tintype, stereographs on glass and paper formats. 

Several designs of the stereoscope will be on display -- all from the collection of Del Phillips, including the revolving Becker style, the box- type Brewster model, the stereographoscope and examples of the more common Holmes/Bates design.

Del’s collection consists of over 200 stereoviewers.
He has vast knowledge about this turn of the century technology, and will be sharing it in a gallery walk-and-talk presentation.
