Meet the Museum, Pre-school through
1st Grade
Length of tour: 30 minutes (optional 30
minute art activity can be added)
In this introduction to the museum,
children learn art media (painting,
sculpture, photography),
art themes (still life, landscape,
portrait), and museum terms (gallery,
artist, docent), while
exploring the galleries in our historic
Carnegie building.

Color, Line, and Shape, Grades 1
through 3
Length of tour: 45 minutes (optional 45
minute art activity can be added)
Explore how color, line, and shape are
used to make works of art. This tour uses
careful looking
exercises to help students understand the basic elements
of art.

Exploring the Elements of Art,
Grades 4 through 8
Length of tour: 45 minutes (optional 45
minute art activity can be added)
This tour explores the elements of
color, line, shape/form, space, and texture.
Guided looking,
art making, and discussion activities help students
understand how artists consciously
manipulate these elements -- often in combination -- to achieve
particular results.

through 8

Contemporary and historical
art of Glacier National Park and Montana are
featured on this tour
of paintings,
sculptures, and photographs from the
museum's permanent collection.

Temporary Exhibit Tour, All Grades
Length of tour: 30 - 45 minutes
(optional art activity can be added)
The
focus of this tour is on the highlights of
temporary exhibitions currently on view.
It can be
adapted to meet your group's special interests.

Instruction and materials are available to
make an art project related to the current
exhibits. Projects are designed to match the
skill level of participants and to integrate
the project with their gallery experience.
We Would Like a Pre-Tour Talk:

Groups with participants under the age of 9
are strongly encouraged to schedule a
pre-Tour Talk before their visit to the
museum. Prior to a tour, a member of our
education staff will come to the classroom
or group's facility to introduce the
exhibits and related vocabulary, review
"museum manners," and build interest in
touring the museum by answering questions.
