Pictures: The
3rd Serial |
Ch.
11: Crass Reunions and Emperor Ming |
Ming
the Merciless has Dale in his clutches again on Saturday, thanks to treacherous
Lady Sonja. |
Alex Raymond's near-contemporary plot of 1940 also featured Dale as a captive
on Sunday. |
Dale called out a brave warning to Flash over the Space O Phone in the comic
strip. |
After waking up from the gas attack, Dale pleads to be released from Ming. |
Ming
had lascivious designs on Dale from 1934 onward, and he rarely bargained --
in good faith or bad. |
For some dumb reason, Ming wants Captain Torch back in his service -- bad
enough to trade Dale for him. |
Ming fools
everybody in the movie by poisoning Dale, forcing Zarkov to escort her back
for an antidote. |
In the comic strip, Zarkov played a big role during Dale's rescue from Ming's
nasty scheme. |
Dale
and Aura eventually became friends on Sunday, but the princess was never held
captive. |
Ming
knows that Flash and Barin will make another attempt to rescue their mates. |
Dale
and Aura are imprisoned in a gilded cage, with an elecrtified entrance awaiting
any rescuers. | Emperor
Ming also used Dale Arden to bait a trap for Flash Gordon in the Sunday pages. |
The
royal tombs served as excellent hiding places for the Outlaws of Mongo
in 1938. | Flash
and Barin sneak in through the tombs, on the other side of Ming's palace in
1940. |
The
lady prisoners sleep lightly in their luxurious cell. | Ming
sent Dale to a dungeon in the comics. |
Flash
had one HELL of a miserable time dealing with Dale's prison in the newspaper. | Dale
warns Flash in enough time to survive a cliffhanger in the movie serial. |
In
the movie serial ONLY, all our lovers reunite -- after Ming's trap almost electrocutes
Flash. | Dale,
Aura, Barin, Flash, and Roka have the run of Ming's palace. |
The intrepid
band rushes to Ming's laboratory in order to rescue Doctor Zarkov in the film. | Dale
was finally reunited with Flash and Zarkov, but their troubles continued in
the strip. |
