Flash Gordon Conquers Universal Pictures: The 3rd Serial
Preface and Index
In 1940, Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe extensively borrowed elements from Alex Raymond, but Hollywood used them like patches in a krazy-quilt. There were two arcs within the serial's plot -- Ming's Purple Death for the first third. (Which never occurred in the strip.) During the final two-thirds, both movies and papers chronicled a rebellion against Emperor Ming among the dictator's subjects, led by Flash Gordon.
