Cellulose
to Celluloid: Flash
Gordon on Paper and Film
Chapter
Eight: Flash and Dale have a falling out with the
Shark Men
|
After
escaping Ming's attempted wedding, Flash, Dale, and
Thun tumble into an underground river in the comic strip. |
Only
Flash and Dale fall through a trap door in the movie.
There's no net below this time -- just water. |
Even
though they are captured by slimey Shark Men on paper
and film, the plots of the movie serial and comic strip
start to seriously diverge during this episode. |
Flash
fights under water in the two different media -- Larry
(Buster) Crabbe was an Olympic swimmer after all. |
There
are a few details in common, like a pathetic duel with
Kala, King of the Shark Men (below), but the storylines
spiral off in different directions before they run parallel
again. |
