Cellulose
to Celluloid: Flash
Gordon on Paper and Film
Chapter
Seven: Flash Gordon saves Dale Arden from Ming's lustful
intentions
|
The Flash Gordon chapter serial threw a lot more
suspense at the audience than the comic strip. |
Flash
fought soldiers and monsters before seizing his zonked-out
friend and running away with her. |
Flash
comes out swinging, but Dale helps bail herself out
of her less-than-matrimonial predicament. |
Ming's Dehumanizer Ray must have been defective in the
comic strip, because Dale joins up with Flash and Thun
... |
... in toppling the Great Idol onto their enemies, slowing
down the inevitable pursuit.
A major departure between serial and strip was Ming's
attempt (and failure) of another "marriage"
to Dale later. |
The Great Idol fell in the movies too, but Flash and
Thun did it to interrupt Ming's blasphemous ceremony. |
