Galleries:

The Hockaday Museum of Art focuses on the art of Montana and Montana artists, with an emphasis on the art of Glacier National Park. The Museum maintains a permanent collection and offers rotating exhibits of works by nationally renowned and emerging artists. Children will enjoy the Discovery Gallery, with hands-on activities that change along with the exhibits.

History:

The Hockaday is housed in a turn-of-the-century Carnegie Library Building that is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. The 100-year-old plus building, now handicapped accessible, has undergone significant renovations to create a sophisticated museum setting while retaining the building’s historic beauty.

Hugh Hockaday (1892-1968) moved to the Flathead Valley after a successful career as a commercial artist. He passed away during the conversion of the Carnegie library to an art center, which was named in his honor.

Location:

The Hockaday Museum of Art is located 2 blocks east of Main Street at the corner of Third Street and Second Avenue East in downtown Kalispell.

Directions:

Northbound, on U.S. Highway 93 (Main Street), turn right onto Third Street and continue east for two blocks. Southbound, turn left onto Fourth Street, head east for two blocks, then turn left onto Second Avenue East for one block.
